Yo. Its happening for probably the first and only time...... I will perform as
D003Y D3C1MAL in the library, at Herndon. I have always been relectant to do this in the past, but now I feel the time is right.
On Monday, November 3rd I will perform during the art show for Donna Surles at Herndon.
She is a patron who I have come to know over my last few years at the branch. I introduced her to Booker so she could get her work up.
If you don't know, I rap about nerdy stuff, with books being my primary subject matter. I just have to try and clean up my flow so it is appropo for the Bibliotequa.

Music in the library- *inspiration*
Today at Herndon was a good day. Saturdays are busy and the time flows quickly, much to my delight.
While on the floor, I noticed that there was a young man in our laptop area working on music. He had a midi controller attached to his computer. I introduced myself and asked what he was up to. He said that he came to the library to compose because he liked working in different spaces, and our environment was an inspiration to him.
This made me so happy. Being a musician, I understand where he is coming from. I am stoked that we can provide a place for him to be creative. To me, this is the heart of what the library is all about.

Week #7
I am slightly disturbed by the Catster and the Dogster type websites. I have a Myspace account, but I dont really see the point in making a social networking page for your pet. Truly, it is not for the pet, but for the owner.
It's even creepier when the bios and profile is written in the first person, as if the pet is speaking. Is that a form os schitzophrenia? Can you take doggie prozac for that? I always say 'to each their own" but in this case I find it a little wacky.
I have a cat named Houdini. I have posted his picture on my blog. He brings me much joy. However, instead of making a web page for him to meet other cats (??????) I would rather just read a book with him purring in my lap.

the yellow Flickr
I have been using a Flickr account for a while in conjunction with my non-work blog.
Its great to have an external place to post pics from.

Digital Copyright
When it comes to music, I am a communist. I raised in the early 80's, and I had a small tape recorder that I used to record everything I liked, making mash up mix tapes from the radio, TV, and my nintendo. One example is the opening song for Miami Vice, which I loved.
Also, I am a musician. I create and record music all the time. I am going into a local studio next month to record with my band D Street. We sell out music at shows, in stores, and online.
However, if somebody wants our music, I would make a bootleg copy for them without hesitation. In addition, I listen to all my music from the computer, and I share with my friends as much as possible. I do feel that music has value, but more in performance. Recorded music should be as close to free as possible, which is the opposite of the intention of record companies.
I found the ALA Copyright FAQ for libraries very helpful. Personally, I don't agree with them, but it is important to know the law and how it applies to our work.

ask a ninja? Podcast confusion
I like podcasts, but in many cases I feel they are almost obsolete. Many peoples Ipod devices can already play video files; it would make sense to make a video first and just take the audio from that.
Podcasting is a cool DIY tool for putting out information in audio format. I personally just don't listen to them.
However, there is a podcast of my band playing on NPR like 1 year ago on the Arts Connection.
